A green coloured local CTU bus met with an accident in Sector 42 Chandigarh, killing 1 person and injuring many others. The bus which was going toward sector 41-42 roundabout near the Chandigarh Institute of Hotel Management in Sector 42 hit a rickshaw and overturned. The driver of the bus tried to save the rickshaw by suddenly making a cut but the bus still hit the rickshaw. The sudden cut made the bus wheels hit the road berm by which the bus overturned.
A person who was sitting in the rickshaw was killed in the incident. He was taken to Sector 16 hospital but was declared brought dead. Others who were injured in the accident were standing on the road side when the bus came and hit them. Everything happened in a fraction of a second. All injured have been admitted to Sector 16 hospital. There were 50 passengers in the bus when it overturned but all passengers were rescued unhurt.
People rushed to the accident spot to rescue the accident victime and a call was made to the PCR. According to an eye witness, the PCR gypsy reached the spot within 10 minutes of the call. The police then took quick action and moved the injured to the hospital. Recovery vans were called immediately on the spot to clear the accident scene.
The bus driver was arrested on the spot and was taken to Sector 36 police station. However he was released on bail later in the evening.
