A new sub 4-metre SUV from Mahindra to be soon launched in India

As per the report, the company is likely to unveil a new vehicle which will be derived from its subcompact SUV – S201. The company is planning to launch the new sub-4m SUV in the segment that currently has two other products from the carmaker – Mahindra TUV300 and NuvoSport.

While spied images of the Mahindra S201 are doing rounds on the digital platform it is being speculated that the automaker will also unveil the new sub-4m SUV at the upcoming Auto Expo 2018.

Here’s what the smaller SUV from Mahindra would look like

While the Mahindra S201 (codename) looks similar to the SsangYong Tivoli, the new smaller SUV is believed to be the smaller version of the Tivoli. Earlier, the SsangYong Tivoli was showcased at the previous edition of the Indian Auto Expo in 2016. Post the showcase, it was speculated that automaker Mahindra will launch it with SsangYong.

As per the report, the shorter version of the new vehicle has been recently spotted. It is being considered that he automaker might offer two versions of the new S201 SUV. While the compact SUV would target the Hyundai Creta, the sub-4m SUV version of the vehicle is expected compete against the segment leader Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza. Both, the Hyundai Creta and the Maruti Suzuki Breeza are the best-selling models in their segments.

Features of the S201-based smaller SUV

The automaker has two offerings in the sub-4m SUV space already – the TUV300 and the Nuvosport. The reason why Mahindra is planning to launch a new product in the segment against its existing products is that these two products are not among the best sellers. According to the report, while the NuvoSport sells about 45-50 cars monthly, the TUV300 touches only 2,000 sale mark. On the other hand, the competitors in the segment, the Vitara Brezza sells around 10-15, 000 units monthly whereas the newly launched Tata Nexon touches a number of around 4-5k monthly.

The automaker is expecting a number churner here and the new S201-based offering in the sub-4metre SUV category could do the same for Mahindra. Though the company has not yet revealed anything about the new offering but it is likely that the smaller version of the S201 may start from Rs 6-7 lakh and is expected to be launched next year.
