Mahindra is all set to launch its SUV Ssangyong Rexton in India. According to reports, Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) has confirmed that all-new Ssangyong Rexton will be launched in India soon. The company revealed that it will be launching the all-new G4 Ssangyong Rexton in the second half of 2018 in the Indian market.
The global unveiling of the all-new Ssangyong Rexton had already been done at the Seoul motor show in April this year. After the global unveiling, Mahindra & Mahindra announced that the all-new Ssangyong Rexton will be launched in India soon but the company is yet evaluating the launch from a cost perspective and is working on the feasibility of launching the all-new Rexton in India with an attractive price tag.
New Ssangyong Rexton to be launched in India on Diwali
According to reports, the company will be in a position to launch the all-new Ssangyong Rexton in India in around year if it is economically feasible for the company to do so. The report also mentioned that the company is checking all the price prospects to position the all-new Ssangyong Rexton within an affordable price limit.
There are reports that suggest that the company is keen to launch the all-new Ssangyong Rexton in India but the cost of the product is the greatest challenge for Mahindra. The company has decided to launch the all-new Ssangyong Rexton in India as the company believes the opportunity for the all-new Ssangyong Rexton in the Indian market is great.
To work on the price challenge Mahindra & Mahindra has plans to assemble the all-new Ssangyong Rexton locally in India. This step will not only avoid the high customs levied on imported cars or completely built-up (CBU) but will also reduce its cost. To reduce the manufacturing cost further, the company plans to weld the body as well as paint the all-new Ssangyong Rexton in-house.
New powerful Ssangyong Rexton and its competitors
The all-new Ssangyong Rexton SUV is huge. The 4.8m long SUV is built on Ssangyong’ latest body-on-frame chassis and is powered by a 2.2-litre diesel engine. The all-new Ssangyong Rexton’s engine is expected to deliver 187hp and 420Nm of torque.
The new Ssangyong Rexton will compete with the likes of Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour and lately launched Jeep in India. To stand a fighting chance against market-leading rivals, Mahindra might offer the Rexton loaded with attractive features and pricing it very aggressively.
Launch date and the attractive price
It was reported that the locally assembled all-new Ssangyong Rexton is expected to be launched in India by Diwali next year. Amidst speculations, it is also expected that the all-new Ssangyong Rexton may carry a Mahindra badge.
The company has not yet revealed the approximate price of the SUV but it has hinted that the company is aiming to undercut the Toyota Fortuner by around Rs 3-4 lakh. Furthermore, there is still no clarity on whether the Rexton will be badged a Mahindra or it will carry the same a Ssangyong badge in India.
