Mahindra to Soon Launch an (Electric Version of New Mahindra Scorpio) & Here’s What We Know

Chances are if we mention electric vehicles in India, you will think about small, too compact cars that are uneasy to even get it but Mahindra is here to change that by launching the Mahindra Scorpio. The Scorpio was one of India’s first full-blown SUV in the affordable segment and this Mahindra still enjoys the same tag to this day. With the ambitious project to make India an all-electric vehicle market by 2030 manufacturers like Tata and Mahindra have already given a kick-start to this campaign with the launch of cars like E-Verito, Tigor EV and now the Mahindra Scorpio.

Why Is Mahindra So Keen To Launch Electric Vehicles Like the Mahindra Scorpio Electric

Mahindra Scorpio Electric makes total sense as the Indian Government intends to stop supporting the sales of petrol and diesel powered vehicles eventually and make India an all-electric car market by 2030. Car manufacturers like Tata and Mahindra have already started working on the same and even have electric vehicles on sale already. The Scorpio maker Mahindra already sells the e20 and the electric version of their compact sedan Verito.

With the Mahindra Scorpio electric, the company wants to make sure it stays ahead of the game by offering a full family SUV with a seven-seat capacity to cater to the Indian customer. The fact that the Mahindra Scorpio is already popular among the Indian car buyer will help the company to bring more customers to the electric version. The company is working on a bigger electric motor that will be more power efficient and manage to give the Mahindra Scorpio electric a range of about 200 kilometres. If we take things into comparison popular car maker Tesla sells their cars with a range of 350 kilometres in the US.

Apart from the Mahindra Scorpio electric, KUV100 too will get an electric motor

Mahindra’s plans for the electric future of the Indian car market do not stop with the Mahindra Scorpio electric itself. The company is said to be working on the electric version of KUV100 as well and will look to launch it by sometime next year.

As per reports a bigger electric motor with 240 kilometres range is in the works as well and will mark Mahindra’s entry into the US market under the name Sanyong. The Mahindra Scorpio electric will be launched sometime in 2019 and may come at a huge premium than the existing car.
