Mahindra to Launch Petrol Variant of 2017 XUV500 G9 With 2.2-Litre Engine | Specifications, Launch Date & More

Mahindra will soon be launching the petrol variant of its successful SUV – the XUV500. The petrol variant of the SUV is likely to come with a 2.2 litre engine. As per the report, the XUV500 will have a new variant in the XUV500 line-up – the Mahindra XUV 500 G9.

Mahindra all set to launch petrol variant of 2017 XUV500 G9

As per the report, Mahindra is all set to launch a petrol variant of its most successful premium SUV the XUV 500 in the India. It has also been reported that the new petrol variant which is going to be launched by the home-grown automaker Mahindra and Mahindra will carry a 2.2 litre engine.

The move is aimed at offering more options to the consumer as well as increasing the sale figures by capturing a significant share of the petrol run SUV segment in the country.  The 2.2 litre petrol engine that will power the new Petrol variant Mahindra XUV 500 G9 will churn out 140hp and 320Nm of torque. As per the report, the 2.2-litre motor will produce around 140hp and 320Nm of torque.

Engine specifications of the new XUV500 G9

It has been reported that the petrol motor of the Mahindra XUV500 G9 will be based on the same engine block that powers some other cars from the Mahindra stable. The report mentions that the Mahindra XUV500 G9 will get the same engine that has been the foundation of the mHawk 2.2-litre diesel engine.

There will be some changes in the petrol variant of the XUV500 line-up as compared to the diesel variant of the SUV. While the diesel variant of the Mahindra XUV 500 carries a ‘W’ nomenclature, the petrol variant of the XUV 500 that will carry a 2.2 litre engine is reported to get the ‘G’ nomenclature.

Features of the XUV 500 G9 petrol variant 

It has been reported that Mahindra will launch only one variant of the petrol model of XUV 500 initially. The petrol variant Mahindra XUV500 has been christened as the Mahindra XUV500 G9 petrol. Initially, this petrol unit of the XUV 500 will come mated to a six-speed automatic gearbox. The company may launch the manual variant of the petrol XUV 500 later.

The XUV500 G9 is likely to get a touchscreen infotainment system. On the safety front the Mahindra XUV500 G9 will get only two airbags. The XUV 500 G9 will also miss out on leather seats as well as alloy wheels. The XUV500 petrol variant is expected to take on the Jeep Compass petrol. As per the report, the Jeep Compass petrol variant comes with a 1.4-litre turbo engine that churns out 163hp.
