Chandigarh reports another case of murder this month where an auto driver (33) got allegedly killed by the lover of his own wife (Pratibha) in his own house. The victim, Udayvir Singh was a resident of Chandigarh Industrial Area, Phase-2, Ram Darbar and was brutally attacked by the accused, Satnam Singh.
As per the police, Satnam, a resident of Behlana was in a relationship with Udayvir’s wife, Pratibha. Satnam who holds a criminal record has now been arrested by the police and the baseball bat, which was used in committing the crime has also been recovered from him. Satnam is also an auto driver and is booked under various criminal cases including robbery, seven thefts, receiving stolen properties in Chandigarh and Zirakpur and snatching.
How was the Chandigarh- based auto driver killed
According to the Police, on June 13, Udayvir had reached home after performing last rites of immersing his father’s ashes in river Ganga in Haridwar, who had died on June 10. In a statement given by the elder brother of the victim, Durgapal Singh, at around 2:55 am in the wee hours he heard Satnam on the yelling that Pratibha married Udayvir un willfully around 1.5 years back and now she isn’t happy with him.
Durgapal Singh who also resides on the ground floor of the same house ran to the second floor, where Udayvir stayed, to look into the matter, where he saw Satnam beating his brother Udayvir with a baseball bat and shouting. When Durgapal tried to save his brother, Satnam along with Udayvir went to the adjoining terrace of someone else’s house. Satnam later hit on Udayvir head with a baseball bat and pushed him off from the second floor, after which the victim received severe head injuries.
The family then rushed Udayvir to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32 where doctors declared him brought dead.
Police action in the murder case of Chandigarh’s auto driver
Before taking the victim to the hospital, the family had called at 100 number, police control room informing about the incident but couldn’t wait for police to reach the spot as Udayvir was bleeding profusely and was immediately taken to the hospital. The official statement of Pratibha is yet to be recorded by the police.
After performing the autopsy, the body of the victim has been handed over to the family. under Section 302 of IPC, a murder case has been registered at Sector 31 police station against the accused.
