Maruti Suzuki’s best-selling hatchback Alto has retained the first position in the list of the most-selling passenger cars in India. The list for the month of November is out and out of top 10 selling passenger cars, India’s largest car manufacturer, Maruti Suzuki has occupied seven spot with the first six in its kitty.
Alto had earlier lost the spot for two months in a row and had slipped to the second position after being taken over by its bigger sibling, the new Dzire. Maruti Suzuki’s compact sedan next-gen Dzire occupied the top spot in the most-selling passenger vehicle list for consecutive two months but the hatchback repossessed the best-selling model tag in the country for sales in October, 2017. While Dzire remained the top-selling passenger vehicle model for the month of August and September, Alto regained the position in October and retained it in the month of November as well.
Maruti Suzuki is the leader in the top 10 selling passenger cars
According to the report, Maruti Suzuki occupies seven spots out of total 10 in the list of top 10 selling cars in India. In fact, the first six spots are occupied by the market leader. Apart from Maruti Suzuki, the largest car manufacturer in India, only Hyundai Motors is the other car manufacturer whose cars made it to the list of top 10 selling passenger vehicles in India.
As per data, Maruti Suzuki’s entry-level hatchback, Alto retained the top spot. The family hatchback has remained consistent on the leading position and in the month of November registered a total sale of 24,166 units.
Maruti Suzuki’s Alto was followed by the next-gen Maruti Suzuki Dzire that skidded to the second position in the month of October. The compact sedan from Maruti retained the second spot in the month of November with 22, 492 units sold. The third position was occupied by the hot hatchback Baleno with 17, 769 units sold in the month of November.

Maruti Suzuki’s subcompact SUV Vitara Breeza, Wagon R and Swift occupied the fourth, fifth and sixth position with 14,458; 14, 038 and 13, 337 units sold respectively in the last month. The following three positions were occupied by Hyundai, the second largest car manufacturer in India. Hyundai’s Grand i20 registered a sale of 13, 249 while it sold 10, 236 units of the Elite i20 to claim the seventh and eighth position. The second last spot in list of top 10 selling cars in India went to Hyundai Creta with 8, 528 units sold while Maruti’s Celerio could only sell 8,437 units to become the seventh car in the list of top 10 selling cars in India.
