Mercedes Launches Sports Car AMG GT R at Rs. 2.19 Crore | Know Features & Specifications

With the launch of Mercedes-AMG GT R, Mercedes-AMG has certainly continued its car launch spree in India. The latest to join the AMG’s line-up in India are the drop-top GT Roadster and the flagship GT R.

The sturdy and powerful Mercedes-AMG GT R

Mercedes-AMG GT R, The flagship sportscar is powered by 4.0-litre, twin-turbo, V8 petrol engine. This supercharged engine produces 585 ps of power and 700Nm of peak torque. The engine, codenamed M177, is mated to seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. The same engine is found in other GT model cars. Though each engine has been set under different ratios that offer different power to all the Mercedes-AMG cars. The ratio that has been set in the Mercedes-AMG GT R helps the GT R sprint to 100kph in a claimed 3.6sec. The powerful V8 engine also assists the Mercedes-AMG GT R  to reach a top speed of 317kph. Besides the engine, the AMG GT R is supported by a heavily modified double-wishbone suspension system. This system has been developed from the GT3 racer.

Specifications of the new  Mercedes sports car 

The Dynamic Select function in the Mercedes AMG offers a choice of three damping characteristics – Comfort, Sport and Sport Plus. Mercedes-Benz seems to be on the expansion spree as the company has constantly been expanding its AMG-powered product portfolio in India. With the latest launch, Mercedes Benz has increased the count to twelve of AMG-marked offerings in India. This year Mercedez Benz has already launched five cars. Prior to the launch of Mercedes-AMG GT R and Mercedes-AMG GT Roadster, the German automaker Mercedez-Benz has already launched the GLS 63, G 63 and the GLC 43 4 MATIC Coupe in the country.

Major changes in the Mercedes-AMG GT R

One of the biggest changes that the Mercedes-AMG GT R will see is the change in the chassis. However, there are reserved changes in the steering as well. Together with a speed-sensitive variable-ratio rack, in the first of its kind, the Mercedes-AMG GT R is the first Mercedes-AMG model to have rear-wheel steering.

What is rear-wheel steering?

Rear-wheel steering offers a better control over the vehicle, especially while attempting to corner at higher speeds. This technology provides smooth control without sacrificing on either agility or stability and makes your way safely around the passage. The active rear axle steering system in the rear wheels of the newly launched Mercedes-AMG GT R offers the ultimate pleasure to drive the sports car at high-speed without sacrificing on agility or stability. The system allows the driver to have a wider turning radius when making turns. With the system the rear wheels turn in the same direction as the front ones that adds more stability to the vehicle especially while going around the corner.

Competition and price in India

The Mercedes AMG GT R will give a tough competition to the Porsche 911 Turbo and Aston Martin’s Vantage V12. It was reported that the Mercedes AMG GT R will cost Rs 2.19 crore in India.
