Dera Chief Rape Case: Mobile Internet Services Blocked in Punjab, Haryana & Chandigarh for Next 72 Hours

Due to the ongoing Dera Chief rape case tense situation in Panchkula, Chandigarh, and Mohali, the government of both the states have decided to block the mobile internet services of Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh immediately for next 72 hours. The decision was taken today morning during the joint committee meeting of Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh along with the Governor of Punjab.

A joint control room will also be set up by the Punjab and Haryana for the coming two days as the situation in Panchkula especially seems to worsen today as over two lakh Dera followers from across Punjab and Haryana have reached Panchkula with an intent to stage the protest tomorrow. These many people have gathered in support of Dera Sacha Sauda Chief, Gurmeet Ram Rahim, who is accused in a rape case and the final pronouncement will be given to him tomorrow on August 25 in this regard at the special CBI court in Panchkula.

Situation worsens in Panchkula, Chandigarh & Mohali due to Dera Chief rape case

For the past two days, Section 144 is issued across Panchkula, Mohali and Chandigarh and the two states have been declared on high alert. More than 50,000 state police, special commandos, and paramilitary is deployed across the tricity to maintain law and order. State highways and all the borders of the tricity is barricaded to keep the miscreants at bay from entering the week spots.

Apart from this, in a meeting held today, the Ministry of Railways is also requested to cancel all the passenger trains that arrive at Chandigarh for the coming two days as the precautionary measures. No public is allowed to carry weapons as the Dera followers have threatened to create a scene of hue and cry on August 25, if the CBI court’s final verdict will be against Dera Chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim. It is also rumored that the Dera lovers have collected artilleries, weapons and stored fuel to attack if the court orders Gurmeet Ram Rahim to be sent behind the bars.

Security arrangements enhanced in tricity

Today, citing the increase in the tense situation in the tricity, the administration has decided to deploy more forces including 18 more CRPF companies who will reach the spot by today evening. A state riot control room will also be set up today at the Panchula’s Police Headquarters that will be operational 24*7 till the situation gets controllable.

Our website, Chandigarh Metro will also remain affected due to no internet services in Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh.
