Mohali Police Arrests Six People For Betting On IPL Matches

Mohali | Once again IPL betting has been into the news. Every year bookies are caught during the IPL season. Initially, a lot of Rajasthan Royals players were banned for match-fixing and later Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals were suspended for 2 years. However, it is expected that both CSK and RR will be a part of IPL next year.

Six People Held For Betting in Mohali

On Friday, the Mohali police arrested six persons for betting on IPL matches. The Mohali police have also recovered Rs. 14,500, 1 laptop, 1 voice recording machine and 14 mobile phones. The six persons arrested by the Mohali police have been identified as Ankur Aggarwal, Robin Sethi, Dheeraj Garg, Mani Sethi, Jagmeet Singh and Parth Bakshi.

All of them were caught red-handed by the Mohali police. As per sources, the arrested persons either belong to Delhi or Dabhwali.

How The Police Caught The Accused

The local police received a tip from a secret agent and a raid was conducted at their apartment. The six persons arrested by the police used to watch the matches closely at the apartment and were connected with clients, bookies, customers through different mobile phones so no one could track them. The police said that these were connecting with the customers or bookies in Jaipur, Rajasthan where they were placing all the bets.

As per the police sources, the major bets were placed during the IPL-10 matches of Kings XI Punjab (KXIP), Royal Challenger Bangalore (RCB) etc. All the six people arrested were caught placing bets and their main operator was a Jaipur-based person.

The accused used to invite a lot of people to place bets on the IPL matches and they had already placed bets over Rs. 5 lakh in the last week.

All of them were Masterminds

Out of the six-people arrested by the police, Ankur Aggarwal is a graduate and Robin Sethi is the king of the gang during the IPL matches. Apart from Ankur Aggarwal, the other people who have been arrested are matriculates. They had fixed a date to collect Rs. 1 lakh from their client in Jaipur.

The police said that the group has been into betting for over a year. They were masterminds as they never used to operate from one state. They had started operating for the matches which were to be held at Mohali.

They used to change their location in every match. The police said that last week they were operating from a lottery shop in Zirakpur. The were lucky to escape before the cops reached their location but this time the police caught them red-handed.

The police have booked all the six persons under the relevant sections of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and also under the relevant sections of gambling act.

Cricket is a sport and should be respected not exploited.
