The first 5 star hotel of Chandigarh, Hotel Mountview in Sector 10 has lost its five star badge as it was deleted from the list of 5 star hotels by Ministry of Tourism. Mountview is one of the flagship hotels of Chandigarh which comes under CITCO (Chandigarh Industrial and Tourism Developmental Corporation) and was the first hotel in Chandigarh to attain a 5 star status.
Before private hotels like Taj and JW Marriott came to Chandigarh, it was Hotel Mountview which used to host guests like international delegates, cricket teams, superstars, noted businessmen etc. Mountview’s glamour started declining few years ago and the hotel has has never been able to create it again. With losing business, Mountview has also lost its 5 star status.
Why Mountview Chandigarh is no longer a 5 Star Hotel?
According to a story published in Chandigarh Tribune, it was stated that the authorities failed to renew the 5 star status and the hotel was running without 5 star status from past 7 months. However, the hotel authorities said that they had submitted the application on time. It was later revealed that the application was not considered by Ministry of Tourism, India due to incomplete information.
For now, Hotel Mountview has lost its 5 star status and the official website of Ministry of Tourism has also deleted Mountview’s name from its list of 5 star hotels.
CITCO’s Hotel Mountview in sector 10 was recently in news due to huge losses that it is incurring. Whatever maybe the case, Chandigarh has lost its first 5 star hotel and that’s not good.

News Update: Chandigarh Administration said that Ministry of Tourism had not rejected the 5-star status of Hotel Mountview but has asked CITCO to give more details in the application form.
