4th National Cyclothon was held at Chandigarh today morning (21st December, 2014) which saw thousands of enthusiasts participate in it despite the severe cold in the city.
Chandigarh cyclothon has become an annual event which is organized by a sports management company in collaboration with the Chandigarh Administration. The main motive of the event is to promote cycling among youngsters of Chandigarh.
Events at Chandigarh Cyclothon 2014
4 types of different cycling events took place which included:
Pro Race: 57.5 Kms (7:30 AM)
Junior / School ride: 7 Kms (8:45 AM)
Maza / College ride: 7 Kms (9:45 AM)
Corporate ride: 7 Kms (10:45 AM)
A special expo was set up for 2 days prior to the main event day at Leisure valley, Sector 10 where participants were given their chest numbers along with goody bags and the route map.
Chandigarh Cyclothon 2014 was organised by Starbizz India in collaboration with Cycling Federation of India, Sports Authority of India, Chandigarh Sports Department and Chandigarh Tourism. The event was conducted in a professional manner. Medical aid centres were set up on the route and marshals were deployed to guide the cyclists. Cash prizes worth Rs. 3 lakh were awarded to the winners.
Route of Chandigarh Cyclothon 2014
The route for the event was the same as last year. The race started from mid of Jan Marg, adjoining leisure valley. The route was from payment area of Jan Marg till Makta Chownk. Police personal were deployed on the route and all traffic was diverted to other roads during the time of event.
