Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s Mother Among Top 100 Most Influential Women of The World

Nawazuddin Siddiqui whose story itself has been extraordinary took to twitter earlier today to announce that his mother Mehroosina has been featured in the BBC’s List of 100 Most Influential Women. BBC lists women who have faced tough challenges in the world and have somehow managed to overcome them. Women fighting sexism, sexual abuse, female illiteracy or even harassment are honoured by the BBC list every year. This year, however, there are still 40 places ot be filled and in quite a unique way BBC has decided to fill these places by the women who have taken up these challenges in some way.

Mehroosina brought up a kid like Nawazuddin Siddiqui who has seen the worst possible times himself

Nawazuddin Siddiqui was born in Muzaffarnagar district of Uttar Pradesh and is the eldest of eight siblings. He worked as a chemist in Vadodara for a while and later moved to Delhi. In Delhi, he instantly was drawn to acting and got into the National School of Drama by acting in almost 10 plays. After graduating from NSD he moved to Mumbai and saw one of his worst years of life. As he couldn’t pay rent he managed to live with a senior from NSD in exchange of cooking meals for him.

Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s first movie as a debut was Amir Khan starrer Sarfarosh. He then briefly appeared in movies like Shool, Munna Bhai MBBS. Apart from that he got no major work and lived in a flat shared by four other people. He earned occasionally by conducting acting workshops.

Other women featured in the list of 100 Most Influential Women by BBC :

The captain of the Indian Women’s Cricket team Mithali Dorai Raj also managed to make it into the BBC list of 100 Most Influential Women. Mithali is also the highest run-scorer in women’s international cricket. She is the only female cricketer in the world who has made 6000 runs in One Day International Cricket.

Other Indian women like Dr. Urvashi Sahni, Priyanka Roy and Nitya Thummalachetty are also featured in the list.

‘Afreen Afreen’ Pakistani singer Momina Mustehsan who is frequently seen in the Coke Studio is also in the list.
