New Delhi rejects to showcase Chandigarh Tableau at Republic Day Parade

The hard work and the high hopes of Chandigarh Administration came crashing as the Ministry of Defence has rejected the proposal to showcase Chandigarh tableau at the Republic Day Parade in New Delhi. Every state and Union territory participates in the Republic Day parade held at Rajpath by showcasing the major attractions of their state on a tableau.

Designs proposed by Chd Administration (Which got rejected)

Chandigarh administration had proposed 2 different ideas. One was the work of Le Corbusier and the other was the Rose Festival. Both these ideas have been rejected by the central government. For the work of Le Corbusier, Chandigarh Administration had planned to showcase high court, open hand monument, Chandigarh secretariat, legislative assembly and other architectural marvels. For the second idea, Chandigarh Administration had planned to showcase the Chandigarh Rose Festival which is the largest rose show being held in Asia.

The Chandigarh Administration said that they had even hired consultants to provide the design for the tableau but were unable to impress the national panel. In 2013, Chandigarh tableau has showcased Rock Garden – the work of Nek Chand.

For the Republic Day parade of 2015, a total of 18 tableaus have been finalized. Out of these 18, 12 tableaus will be of different states and remaining 8 would be of ministries. Let’s hope that Chandigarh tableau would be there in the Republic Day parade of 2016.
