Shimla, the queen of hills will not be able to witness a White Christmas for the year 2014. This has left many tourists disappointed who thronged Shimla to see snowfall in their winter vacations. Shimla often gets a snowfall on 25th December and that is why the Christmas eve in Shimla is called as ‘White Christmas’. But this time Shimla has not received any fresh snowfall during the Christmas days.
It snowed in Shimla during the second week of December, which gave high expectations of a snowfall during Christmas days. People from Chandigarh and Delhi have gone to Shimla to celebrate Christmas with hopes to see live snowfall but the Meteorological department of Himachal Pradesh has said that Shimla and other major tourist hill stations in the state will see sunny days till 29th December.
However, those who have gone to Shimla can see snow clad mountain peaks at a distance but will not be able to walk on the snow and play with it. Most of the snow at Kufri has also melted.
The church on the mall road at Shimla is all set to welcome thousands of people on the Christmas day. Not just tourists, but locals residing in Shimla come to the church to celebrate Christmas. Even if there is no snow this time, people can literally bump into each other while walking on the mall road due to heavy rush.
