Reason behind the Blackout in the heart of the city

As per the head of the Chandigarh Business Council, the vendors have occupied most of the space in Sector-17, Chandigarh. It was reported that sector 17 has become their territory due to which, traders are suffering huge losses. Traders are paying more than one lakh rent but due to the vendors they are suffering losses in the business.

The council alleged that the Municipal Corporation, as well as the administration, is not giving any notice to this grave concern. It was also mentioned in the report that the merchants have invested hugely in the businesses, they pay all taxes and also bear other expenses such as staff salaries, electricity and other bills et al but in return they are losing the business due to the street vendors who have occupied most of the space in sector 17 and there is no place to walk in the sector 17 Plaza.

Similar blackout in Sector 17, Chandigarh

A similar blackout was observed in Sector-17 some time ago by the merchants. The reason behind the previous blackout was the closing of Saheb Singh and Empire Store parking. Due to protest by the traders the Municipal Corporation had to re-open the parking in the above-mentioned parking lots.

The traders alleged that the world’s most beautiful market had been made a street market. The cosmopolitan open arcade type setup has lost its charm due to the vendors. They also stated that the atmosphere of openness has diminished and also the environment has worsened.
