Despite the BJP government at the centre and BJP candidate Kirron kher who is the Member of Parliament from Chandigarh, the Congress party of Chandigarh remains in news every now and then. Just few days after Congress won the mayor elections in Chandigarh, Mr. Janardan Dwivedi who is the general secretary of All India Congress Committee (AICC) announced Pardeep Chhabra as the new Congress President of Chandigarh. Earlier, the post of Congress President of Chandigarh was held by BB Behl from the last 14 years.
Mr. Pawan Kumar Bansal, Former Union Railway Minister and former MP Chandigarh welcomed this decision and gave his wishes to Pardeep Chhabra. He said that Pardeep is a hard working man and he will surely do well as the president of Chandigarh Territorial Congress Committee (CTCC).
Other contenders for this post included Pawan Sharma (party Vice President) , Ravinder Pal Singh Paali (former Mayor) and HS Lucky (former Deputy Mayor).
Congress party in Chandigarh has recently won in the mayor elections. The Mayor and Deputy Mayor posts are both held by Congress candidates.
