In an attempt to go tech-friendly and ease the process of getting treated at PGI Chandigarh, the institute administration will now be boosting online registrations. PGI has taken up the initiative of constituting a special team dedicated to the sole purpose of increasing online registrations.
This team comprising of young doctors will boast of computerisation of the entire hospital for better efficiency and is headed by Dr. Ritesh Agarwal from the department of pulmonary medicine.
Why the Initiative
The institute administration aims to bring forth a change for the betterment of the patients coming over to get treated. Catering to the patient influx coming from all the Northern States including Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh, PGI witnesses long queues that line up as early as 6:00 am in the morning daily.
The daily influx at the hospital is estimated to be around 7,000 which in an offline mode is a huge hassle.
Computerisation of Hospital
The implementation of such a trend is surely going to reduce the hassle suffered by the patients that line up and wait for long hours to get the registration done prior to treatment on a daily basis. The estimated count of 25 lakh patients per year is observed in various departments like Advance eye care, paediatric, cardiac, oral health and drug de-addiction units. The conventional approach of treatment in this head count is a cumbersome process and definitely, demands innovation in its procedures.
Online registrations at PGI Chandigarh
The online registration at Chandigarh’s PGI had started in the year 2015 with various loopholes left unnoticed by the organisation leading to less than 10% online registrations in two years. Initially associated with the plan since 2005, Dr YL Narayana from the department of anaesthesia currently serving as committee chairman stated some of these drawbacks that led to the catastrophic decline of the plan:
- Lack of awareness amongst individuals
- No publicity of the launch
- No capping done for those who registered online
- No preference allotted to online registered patients
- Same amount of time got wasted in waiting for the doctor
- Lack of proper implementation
- Statistic speak only 2 lac online registrations in two years
Fresh Launch – A Ray of Hope
The re-launch of the concept along with fresh team of individuals handling the process is surely a ray of hope for those who aim to get treated at the facility without a baggage. The proposal of allotment of hourly slots for online registered users and priority treatment surely is going fetch patients a lot of mental peace and happiness.
