PGI OPD to be centrally air conditioned by 2015 summers

The Out Patient Department at Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) commonly known as OPD at PGI will soon be centrally air conditioned.

The newer wings at PGI like the eye department, cardiac and trauma centre have already been made centrally air conditioned. It is the OPD which is 15 year old and is still not centrally air conditioned. The director of PGI has already asked for proposals from renowned professionals in this regard. The estimated project cost to make PGI OPD centrally AC will be around 12 crore. The total area of the OPD is large so huge compressors would be required to condition the air.

Centrally air conditioning of the OPD will benefit lakhs of patients who come to PGI for treatment. On an average PGI OPD sees 8000 visitors per day. This project is likely to be completed by March 2015 and in the coming summers patients will not have to sit in extreme heat while waiting for their turn at the OPD.

New OPD timings

The registration counters at the new OPD in PGI open at 8:00 AM. The last registration is done at 11:00 AM. Doctors in the new OPD are available till 1:00 PM or till the last registered patient is examined. On a Saturday, the registration timings are from 8:00 AM to 10:30 AM.

The out patient department of PGI is a 5 story building which has a total of 112 different clinics. Central air conditioning of this OPD block will mean that all the 5 stories including all clinics, waiting areas, laboratories and all other rooms will be AC.
