Postal Department to Now Monitor Postmen in Chandigarh via GPS

Chandigarh based all the postmen who deliver mails and parcels will now be under scanner as the Postal Department Chandigarh will keep an eye on their movement and working. Yes, that’s right. The Senior Superintendent of Post offices, Chandigarh Division inaugurated the Postman mobile app to trace their postmen and the deliveries.

Chandigarh which is soon going to be one of the smart cities of India with advanced infrastructure and civic amenities. That is the reason why every department is revamping their system of operations and the curriculum. Now the postal department will keep a watch on all of their postmen’s via GPS while they are on duty. Not only this, in fact, in a bid to come at par with the private courier services, the postal department will maintain an online system to update the entry as soon as the delivery is made by the postmen. This system will also be loaded with the address of the receiver as well as the sender along with the details of the person who has received the mail or the parcel.

How will the GPS system work for Chandigarh Postmen

The postal department has started a Postman mobile app and the postmen are given mobile phones by the department specially for this purpose. The postmen have to download this mobile app first and then they have to sign up to create an account. The account of every individual postman will further be recorded in a consolidated data of the deliveries made in a day, in a week, in a month and in a year. The postmen are also given Subscriber Identification Module (SIMs) for this purpose. All the postmen have been given the training to use this mobile app.

Previously, all these data and entries were made in the evening after 6 pm only after the postmen returned from their field. All the movement of the postmen will be monitored by the higher officials sitting at the GPO in Sector 17, Chandigarh.

How many postmen will be monitored via GPS in Chandigarh

In Chandigarh alone, there are 249 postmen who are working for the postal department. These postmen are not only restricted to Chandigarh only but make deliveries in the Punjab and Haryana circle too which includes Mohali and Panchkula. By now, 171 postmen of Chandigarh have received the mobile phone by the Postal Department of Chandigarh while rest of the postmen have received the mobile phones from the department of Punjab Circle who are working in Mohali, Nagal and Ropar.

The reason why the postal department had taken this step is that of the complaints they were receiving every now and then about the now- deliverability of mails and parcels. Now the department feels that this measure taken will help us to improve our services as well as the usage of mobile app Postman and the smartphone will educate the deliverymen for advance techniques and system.
