Chandigarh Administration will soon be initiating Prepaid Taxi Service for travellers connecting Chandigarh International Airport with the city. As we all know that the International airport terminal has come up in Mohali and there is a need for better connectivity. Although the airport road is super cool, smooth and wide enough, but we are talking about things like public transport and cabs.
As of now, taxis charge a whooping amount from travellers leaving them with no other option. So the authorities have decided to come up with a pre-paid taxi booth at the airport. The idea has rooted up from Delhi Airport (IGI International Airport) which already provides pre-paid taxi assistance to the travellers.
Taxi Service at Chandigarh Airport:
Chandigarh Administration has decided to allot a designated kiosk for Mohali Taxi Union which has made the taxi union people very happy. Previously they could carry on with the private taxi services till the airport but they did not have permission to own a private spot within the airport premises. Moreover, a pre paid koisk will help travellers as they will be paying the fare in advance and save themselves from taxi drivers charging too heavily.
Fares from Chandigarh International Airport to Chandigarh:
Rates are yet to be finalized but according to Inderjeet Singh, who heads the Mohali Taxi Service the fare for a taxi from the International terminal is assumed to be around Rs 400-500 to any destination in the tricity. Currently the service to and from the airport is undertaken by two taxi operators in the city out of which one charges flat Rs 750 and the other provides the service at the rate of Rs 14 per/km.
This pre-paid taxi service from Chandigarh international airport will help a lot of people as they often have to hire a taxi to reach home from Chandigarh International Airport. The service will also be a boon to tourists coming to the city as they can be rest assured that they will not be cheated by taxi drivers. This is surely a great step by the authorities.
It is good to see our own Chandigarh International Airport making progress and new initiatives to help people and connect the world being launched from this place.
