PU Chandigarh has changed the admission template for the MPhil and PhD courses. It happened recently after the admission to PhD in the English department was rejected for daughter of a Haryana Congress leader and other SC candidates. According to these changes now all the departments will consider marks in graduation as well as post-graduation and will initiate the admissions again.
A letter was issued on September 26th by PU head to all the existing departments as well as centres for renewing the admission criteria for both PhD and MPhil programs.
Before this change, every PU department had their own method of admissions for PhD for example for admission to the English department was carried out on the basis of the interviews. Also, the department had counselled some of the candidates to take up MPhil prior to getting some research experience before pursuing PhD. According to the PU authorities the admission procedure carried out by the English Department was not approved by them.
The New PU Admission Template 2017 For PhD and MPhil
For taking an admission to the PhD program now PU has set the criteria to having 50 percent marks in academics including 20 percent weightage for graduation and 30 percent for the post-graduation. Also, for the scholarship or fellowship 10 percent marks will be given.
For MPhil admissions PU has decided the 60 percent weightage for the academic record. 10 percent for the Class XII, 20 percent for graduation and 30 percent for post-graduation. In the latest PU admission template for MPhil the interview carries 40 percent marks.
Department Facing Issues With the New PU Admission Template
The departments are facing issues since PU changed the admission template as several admissions have already been conducted and even at some places students have already started attending MPhil course classes, making re-admissions very difficult.
PU has issued the letter to all the departments on a new template stating that no admission should be made on the basis of interview and interaction else, the department will face the allegations for favoritism.
Here you go, PU has now planned a new template for admission to PhD and MPhil and no admissions are going to take place on mere basis of the interview or interactions.
