A new institute PU-IBMSER (Panjab University Institute of Bio-Medical Sciences, Education & Research) has been announced by PU in the south campus of the university premises. The official brochure for the new institute was released by PU Vice-Chancellor Arun Kumar Grover and the Dean, Faculty of Sciences, Prof Praveen Rishi along with Nobel Laureate Venkatraman Ramakrishnan.
Courses at PU-IBMSER (New Bio-Medical Science Institute at PU)
The new institute will offer dedicated courses in bio-medical sciences which will include:
B.Sc (Hons) in Biochemistry.
B.Sc. (Hons) in Biophysics.
B.Sc. (Hons) in Microbiology.
B.Sc. (Hons) in Biotechnology.
The institute will follow the credit system and it was stated that the classes would commence from the coming 2016-2017 session. Students with medical or non-medical subjects in 12th class will be able to apply to the institute for admissions. The syllabus for B.Sc. in all above mentioned courses will be same for the first 2 semesters and students will be given the choice to choose elective subjects of their choice in the 3rd semester. Prof Praveen Rishi said that the institute would focus on producing research scientists rather than mere degree holders.
