Punjab | Here’s How Different Districts Stand in terms of Sex Ratio

Punjab has been in the news since a lot of days. It is like “All the good things are happening in Punjab” since the Congress Government has taken over. Ferozepur is a city in Punjab located on the banks of the Sutlej River in Ferozepur District. Ferozepur district has the best sex ratio in Punjab while Nawanshahr has the second best sex ratio in Punjab. Ferozepur has 1,014 women per 1,000 men and Nawanshahr has a figure of 1,011.

As per the 2011 census, the numbers are much higher than the state average of 895. Chandigarh and Ropar have the highest percentage of 74.5% anaemic women aging between 15 years – 49 years.

District Wise Survey Of Punjab’s Population

For the first time in Punjab, a district wise survey of Punjab’s population has been carried out. Two districts of Punjab – Pathankot and Fazilka were not included in the National Family Health Survey 2015-16
As per 2013’s CRS (Civil Registration System) Nawanshahr and Fazilka topped the list and Mohali was at third position with 936, 927 and 920 females respectively per 1,000 males. Mohali saw an improvement in numbers as it climbed from 901 females per 1,000 males in 2012 to 920 females.
Some interesting things that came out from the survey:
  • The Sex ratio is better in rural areas of Amritsar district than the urban region. The sex ration was 956 females per 1000 males and 883 females per 1000 males respectively.
  • Sex ration of Punjab was better than the sex ratio of Haryana and Chandigarh. According to the Census 2011, the sex ratio Haryana and Chandigarh was 861 and 818 respectively.

The Objective Of Survey

The survey’s main objective was not only to analyse the data on health and family welfare but to also know the progress India has made in the health sector till now. The data retrieved from the surveys will also help in bringing up new health care programs area wise and the survey will also set a benchmark for other states.
