India is Planning a Railway Line to Manali & Leh | Here are the Highlights

Manali (Himachal Pradesh) will soon get connected to Leh (Jammu & Kashmir) via rail, as Indian Railway has been planning to put rail tracks on the route. Final survey for the location will be carried out soon in connection to the Bilaspur-Manali-Leh rail project in a week. This will be one of its kind rail projects by the Indian Railway to establish a direct connection between Manali-Leh.

Manali-Leh new rail line will not only build a connection between the 2 states but will also make it easy for the traveller to reach Leh via Manali in lesser time. The project is also said to be the world highest rail track at the altitude of 3,300 meters.

New Rail Line between Manali-Leh & its benefits

The new rail line project adjoining Bilaspur-Manali-Leh will be a 498 km long track between the 2 states at an altitude of 3,300 meters. With the building up of the same railway line on the route of Manali-Leh, India is also focusing to ferry with China at its border with ease. After the completion of the rail line, it will take over the Qinghai-Tibet rail track in terms of its height.

And with the new rail connectivity of Manali and Leh, it will become easier for the travellers of Leh to get connected to rest of India easily. As of now, travellers have to commute via road and during the winter season, it becomes very difficult to reach Leh via Road because of snowfall and road blockage. Manali-Leh railway project will save the time and will be safer than the road trip. New rail track between Bilaspur-Leh will connect- Karu, Upshi, Darcha, Koksar, Keylong, Tandi, Manali and Sunder Nagar Mandi.
