Reliance Jio Subscriber Base hits 160 Million | Still Growing with Attractive Voice & Data Plans

Reliance Jio has achieved a subscriber base of 160 million customers within a span of little more than one year. Jio offered free calling and unlimited data services for six months. Akash Ambani the son of Mukesh Ambani revealed the latest subscriber base of Reliance Jio during a conversation with the Bollywood actor Shahrukh Khan. Reliance industries recently celebrated the 40 years of existence of Reliance industries on the birthday of its founder Dhirubhai Ambani.

Reliance Jio’s free Calling and Unlimited Data strategy

Reliance Jio launched its voice and data services last year in September with 6 months unlimited free calling and data services. As the Indian customers are price sensitive, this marketing strategy helped it attract millions of subscribers. People subscribed to Jio services very fast as it offered calling as well as unlimited data which is today the need of most of the young customers. Also, this strategy threw an open challenge to the existing telecom operators with its free voice and data services. Reliance Jio with its entry in the telecom triggered a price war between the telecom companies.

Reliance Jio’s 4G Phone

Earlier, this year the company also announced the Launch of its 4G enabled Jio Phone priced at a zero effective cost. The phone attracted the customers with unlimited free voice calls and low price data bundled with the Jio handset. The company offered to return the handset cost making the effective handset cost as zero. Jio offered the 4G phone for those customers who don’t prefer to buy the touchscreen 4G smartphones at higher costs.

Reliance Jio at 4th Position after Airtel, Vodafone, and Idea

India has the second largest telecom industry after China with a subscriber base of over 1.1 billion with Vodafone, Bharti Airtel, and Idea as the top three telecom companies. As per the data released by TRAI in October this year, the subscriber base of Bharti Airtel is found to be 285 million, and that of Vodafone to be 208 million followed by Idea cellular at 191 million and Reliance Jio at 145.9 million. But now with 2017 coming to an end, the subscriber base of Reliance Jio has crossed the 160 million mark.
