Shimla (Kotkhai) Gang rape, Accused Dead in Police Station, Bandh & More

The Shimla (Kotkhai) gang-rape case is gradually turning bad for the queen of hills – Shimla. After two weeks of teen’s gang-rape and murder in an apple orchard, unrest happened in the city as angry mob forced their way to the police station and damaged property at the police station. Kotkhai, located around 50 km from Shimla is a sleepy village in the district. Shimla- Kotkhai attracted public attention after a schoolgirl was gang-raped and murdered in an apple orchid.

Bandh called in Shimla over Kotkhai gang-rape and murder case

To protest against the gruesome rape and murder of a schoolgirl in Kotkhai town the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)  called a bandh in the city received a tremendous response from the traders as well as the residents. BJP alleged that the Virbhadra government has failed to investigate the gruesome rape and murder case. Fearing violence in the vicinity led by protesters, most of the shops on the Mall Road and Lower Bazaar of Shimla remained closed. Various student organizations actively participated in the protest. The protest was staged at the Mall Road. The crime has triggered a lot of anger among the locals in the area of Shimla.

Ugly side of Kotkhai gang-rape and murder case

The Shimla (Kotkhai) gang-rape and murder case took an ugly turn when one of the accused died in Police custody. It was reported that the main suspect in the Shimla (Kotkhai) gang-rape and murder case allegedly killed another man arrested for the crime. The main suspect allegedly killed one of the accused by smashing his head on the floor. Following the word of murder, an angry mob forced their way into the police station and set three police vehicles and the police station on fire.

Family’s Claim and Action in the Kotkhai (Shimla) gang-rape case

The family of the schoolgirl has claimed that the ‘real culprits’ belong to influential families hence the authorities are not taking swift action against them. Though after large protests in Shimla the state government had agreed to recommend the case to CBI which was handed over to the department by the Himachal Pradesh High Court. The family also claimed that the police arrested six persons, including two laborers from Nepal, but we will keep protesting till the real culprits are apprehended. Taking strict action against the officials, the government transferred the officers who were a part of the investigation of the Kotkhai gang rape and murder case. Those transferred include IGP Zahur H Zaidi, additional SP Bhajan Dev Negi and Shimla SP D W Negi.
