Shimla: Snow Breaks 15 Years Record in the Hill Station | Roads and Electricity Hampered in HP

Shimla: Snowfall in Shimla breaks the single-day record of 15 years in the hill station in the year 2019. The hill station sees the highest snowfall in a single day on 22 January and breaks the record of 15 years. In the starting of this week, Himachal kicks off with cold waves and snow, whereas plain area drenched with heavy rain.

Shimla, Kullu-Manali, Kufri in Himachal Pradesh received heavy snow this week and are all cover with white. Whereas it has also been reported that single day snowfall in Shimla breaks 15 years old record. Check out the weather report of Shimla for the year 2019 below.

Snow breaks a 15-year record in Shimla | Hill Station all decked in White

According to the MeT department, The Queen of Hill Shimla received heavy snow, breaks the record of long 15 years. In the year 2004, Shimla received a record of 57.7 cm snow in just one day i.e 23 January. Whereas Shimla did not see any snow in the month of January in 2 consecutive years from 2006. Also in 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011, Shimla only received 1 cm, 8.7 cm, 1.8 cm and 8.5 cm respectively in the month of January.

In the year 2017, Shimla decked up in the snow of 65.6 cm but it was spread across in 2 days i.e on 7 and 8 January. Whereas according to the reports of MeT department, snow this week in Shimla broke the record of 15 years in one day. As Shimla received these much of snowfall in the year 2004 last time in just 1 day.

Road Blocked and Power Supply Hampered in Himachal

As of now, the roads of Himachal Pradesh has been blocked and even the power supply has been hampered in the state. After the heavy snowfall in the state, Manali witnessed huge traffic jams and slipping-off vehicles. Even some parts of Shimla had no power supply. Whereas Kullu-Manali National Highway was resumed by the administration for vehicles by Tuesday afternoon. Although roads ahead of Manali have been still blocked, as the administration has been ongoing with a clearance of snow.
