SSC CGL 2018 | Tier 1 Examination Pattern & General Tips to Attempt The Exam

SSC CGL 2018: On 5th May as expected, Staff Selection Commission released the notification for the SSC CGL Examination 2018. SSC conducts the Combined Graduate Level Examination every year to fill vacancies in various departments. Over 20 lakh candidates apply for the CGL examination every year but only a few get selected in the CGL exam. Here we are sharing SSC CGL Tier 1 examination pattern & other important details.

SSC CGL Tier 1 includes questions from Aptitude, English Language, Reasoning & General Intelligence and General Awareness. This is the first stage of the Staff Selection Commission CGL Exam and after the qualifying the Tier 1, candidates will go for the SSC CGL Tier 2 exam. But to go for the Tier 2, candidates first need to prepare well for the Tier 1 and then crack the Tier 1.

SSC CGL 2018 Examination Pattern

English Language Section in SSC CGL Tier 1: The Engish Section in the SSC CGL Exam will have total 25 questions and each question will be of 2 marks. Candidates can expect around 5 questions from fill in the blanks, error spotting, reading comprehension, phrase replacement and up to two questions from the spellings and idiom meaning. Questions based on Synonym or Antonym, Speech (Direct or Indirect) and Voice can also be expected in the English Section.

Reasoning & General Intelligence in SSC CGL Tier 1: Reasoning and General Intelligence Section will also have 25 questions with maximum marks of 50. In this section, candidates can expect up to 3 questions from coding-decoding, Venn Diagram, series reasoning, verbal reasoning, classification. 1 or 2 questions from the Formation of words, Directions, Distances, Relations, & Missing Number.

Aptitude Section in SSC CGL Tier 1: Aptitude Section of the SSC Combined Graduate Level Exam will also have 25 total questions each question of 2 marks. In this section, candidates can expect 1 or 2 questions from the Compound Interest, Simple Interest, Ration & Proportion, Time & Distance, Speed, Percentage, Simplification, Age Questions, Number series, Profit-Loss questions, Number system, Time and Work. Up to 3 questions from Trigonometry, Algebra, Geometry, Mensuration and Data Interpretation will also be there. 

General Awareness Section in SSC CGL Tier 1: This section as per Staff Selection Commission, it will have 25 questions of 2 marks each. In this section, the questions from History, Politics, geography, Important Dates, Awards, Sports, Art, Culture, Books, Authors, and Organisation. This sections will also have questions based on Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Computers, Disease, Current Affairs, Diseases and Pollution.

SSC Combined Graduate Level 2018 General Tips

You need to understand that there will only one hour to attempt the question paper of SSC CGL Tier 1. And in 1 hour you will have to attempt total 100 questions. So make a plan that which section of the Combined Graduate Level Exam you will attempt first. Go for the easier section first, so that you can save time to attempt the lengthy questions or time-consuming questions.

Only answer that questions in which you are confident. There will be negative marking for each wrong answer. Refer to the Previous Year question papers of Staff Selection Commission CGL Exam. This will give you an idea of the less time-consuming questions and more time-consuming questions. The last thing, Always read questions carefully before answering.
