Tata Tiago Sport Launching Soon: The Rise Of ‘Hot Hatch’ Segment In India

Tata Tiago Sport is all set to make its debut in India at the Auto Expo in Delhi which is scheduled from 9th to 14th February, 2018. It will be Tata Motor’s first car to enter the hot hatch segment which has seen quite some interest from other car manufacturers in recent past. What started with the Volkswagen Polo GT series, the hot hatch segment today boasts of cars like Punto Abarth, Baleno RS and the Figo Sport. The Tata Tiago is the smallest car to enter the segment and will try to meet the enthusiast at a budget.

Tata Tiago Sport: What will it get over the regular Tiago?

The Tiago when launched was targeted as an entry level passenger car for the Indian car buyer but since the customers have been increasingly getting affectionate towards the hot hatch segment Tata Motors will be launching the Tata Tiago Sport to cater to that audience. The Sport variant will get Nexon’s 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine which makes 108BHP of peak power and 170Nm of torque.

Considering the lighter weight of the Tata Tiago, sports variant will have a better power to weight ratio than the Nexon and will be a quite an enthusiast’s car. Since Tata Motors are looking to pitch the Tata Tiago Sport against the likes of Punto Abarth, the car might get better aerodynamics and tyres offering better grip. New colour variants with body graphics are a sort of given since this is what the other cars get in this segment.

Tata Tiago Sport: Price and Launch Date Details in India

The Tata Tiago Sport will be the smallest car in the hot hatch segment in India when launched and is expected to undercut the price of the Baleno RS with a good 1 Lakh Rupees. Expect it to be pricier than 80,000-90,000 than the existing Tiago top end variant.

The Tata Tiago Sport will make its debut at the Auto Expo in Noida which is scheduled from the 9th to 14th of December, 2018. This will put Tata Motors right on the map for the enthusiast car buyer which has been famous only for its SUVs in the past.
