University Grants Commission has approved to provide online programmes in its Deemed Universities from 2018-19 session. UGC approved to offer diploma, degree & certificate courses online from the new session for the students. And the decision has been taken in the latest meeting of the UGC officials. For sure it has been a great step for making higher education easier.
All the higher education institutes, who fall under the UGC Deemed University can now make their courses online from the new session. Check out more details of the new regulation rolled out by the UGC for the Deemed Universities below.
University Grants Commission (UGC) approves Online Course
University Grants Commission (UGC) will now be able to offer diploma, certificate & degree Programmes online from the 2018-19 academic session. And it has been confirmed by the UGC Senior official, that Deemed Universities will be able to make their courses online for the students. But only those courses will be available online, which the college is already offering at Graduation level.
Although the all-new regulation of UGC does not apply for the courses that need laboratories or practical classes. And also it has been mentioned that the examination for the same will be conducted in a proctored mode that involves the presence of invigilator. Those higher education institutes, who have their existence more than 5 years has been eligible for the same.
More decisions regarding the Online Courses of UGC Deemed Universities
Along with online programmes, University Grants Commission has taken a new decision in regards to stimulating the higher education in India & they are-
- UGC reduced the qualifying marks for SC/ST students for M.Phill/ Ph.D. programmes admission from 50 to 45%.
- Union HRD Ministry aims to reach GER (Gross Enrolment Ratio) of 30% by the year 2020, which just 25.6% in the year 2016-17.
- Also now the weightage marks will consist fo 70 % written exam marks & 30% of the viva exam.
Even University Grants Commission (UGC) has granted autonomy to 9 more Universities named- BITS Pilani, Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (Delhi), Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (Mumbai), Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (Bengaluru), Indian Agricultural Research Institute (Delhi) & more.
