UGC Puts Teaching Staff Recruitment Drive on Hold at Delhi University | Here’s Why

University Grants Commission (UGC) has rolled out a circular stating to hold the new recruitment of the teachers in Delhi University & its colleges. As because there has been a controversy between the Government & the University Teachers Union due to the adoption of Allahabad HC Verdict for department wise quota for the recruitment in Universities.

The UGC decision has called for the breakout of protest as teacher’s Union hinted at the massive downsizing of OBC & SC/ST reserved posts. Check out the full details of the case & the verdict rolled out by Allahabad High Court demanding the department wise quota for the recruitment process in the Universities.

University Grants Commission (UGC): Fresh Teacher’s Recruitment on Hold in DU

University Grants Commision (UGC) has rolled out a notification commanding DU to hold the new recruitment of teachers for the year 2018. In April 2018, Allahabad HC has rolled a verdict stating that there must be a department-wise quota system for the recruitment of teachers in Universities instead of 200 point roster of the recruitment basis. Also, UGC gave a green signal to this decision of the HC, Allahabad in Oct 2017. And a circular was sent to all the Universities to adopt the new recruitment policy in March 2018.

As the statement was rolled out, teacher’s Union began with their protests & all as the new recruitment policy by the UGC (University Grants Commission) has tremendously cut-short the reserved seats for OBC & SC/ST post in the Universities. After the protest became massive throughout the country, UGC has now asked universities to hold on the recruitment process for a while.

Delhi University new changes in the recruitment advertisement 2018

As per the new recruitment policy & the advertisement for the post teachers in Universities has shown a tremendous change. Look at the old & new recruitment advertisement 2018 by many DU Colleges for the year 2018-

  • In JNU out of 900 vacancies only 600 recruitments have been done rest have been vacant but due to the new recruitment policy by the University Grants Commission (UGC), it will remain the same until the next notification.
  • Whereas in IGNTU (MP), 52 posts for the teachers have advertised, out of which only 1 went to OBC & zero for SC/ST as per new policy.
  • Also in BHU (Banaras Hindu University), the reserved posts for the teachers are likely to be halved from 742 to 368 after the implementation of UGC’s new recruitment policy.

Also, University Grants Commission should deal with the situation fast as because DU colleges may get hit after the resuming of the classes after summer vacations. As because 4000+ teachers will find it hard to get their contract renewed after the implementation of new recruitment policy.
