Upcoming Electric Scooters in India in 2018 | Launch Date, Price & Other Details

India is the largest two-wheeler consumer in the world. With increasing awareness towards ecology and the ill effects of pollution, major two-wheel manufacturers are planning to introduce electric scooters in India.

While there are several electric scooters in India these new electric scooters from established scooter manufacturers are going to revolutionize the two-wheeler segment in the country. Let’s see the upcoming scooters from scooter manufacturers in India that are likely to transform the scooter segment in India in 2018.

Hero Leap

Leap two-wheeler, from the two-wheeler manufacturer- Hero, is going to be the first electric hybrid scooter in India. Hero Leap was first showcased as a concept at the 2012 Auto Expo.

The 124 cc Hero Leap will be powered by lithium-ion batteries and will also come equipped with an 8 kW electric Permanent magnet AC traction motor. In addition to the eclectic charge, the Hero Leap will also come with a 3-litre fuel tank capacity as an additional power source. The upcoming two-wheeler will get aerodynamic styling which will also get all-LED lights.

Hero Duet E

Hero first showcased its fully-electric scooter Hero Duet E at the Auto Expo in 2016 as a concept model. When launched, the Hero Duet E will be based on the standard Duet. The fully-electric scooter will share its suspension and design with its gas-chugging sibling.

The company is expected to launch the Hero Duet E by 2018 in India. Powered by an electric motor, the Hero’s Duet E may travel a range of 65 km on a full charge. The motor will produce 6.7 hp and 14 Nm of torque in the Hero Duet E.

Mahindra GenZe

Mahindra & Mahindra is also planning to launch new electric scooter in India. The automaker is likely to launch Mahindra GenZe electric scooter in the country. The automaker is reported to launch its range of e-Bikes and electric scooters in India by 2019. US-based electric two-wheeler manufacturer GenZe is owned by Mahindra and the latter currently sells its products in the US markets.

The automaker has not yet confirmed which all products it is going to launch in the electric scooter segment neither has it revealed the specifications of the two-wheeler. Currently, Mahindra GenZe sells two different variants of the GenZe – 2.0 and 2.0s. In the US market, the GenZe e-Bikes are available in three different sizes but the company has not yet revealed which scooters it will launch in India.

Ather S340

Bangalore-based Ather Energy that currently designs and manufactures electric scooter called S340 unveiled the Ather S340, its first electric scooter, at a technology conference in Bangalore.

The electric scooter-maker is planning to launch the premium product in India in 2018. It is being speculated that the Ather S340 will be priced between the segment leader Honda Activa and the stylish Piaggio Vespa. The electric scooter is likely to enter production stage soon and it is reported to be launched soon in India. The scooter will be powered by an electric motor and will use imported lithium-ion batteries. The scooter will have different driving modes including Economy or Sport and the electric motor will churn out around 3KW or 5KW of maximum power and a peak torque of 14 Nm.
