The changed and revised exam pattern for the UPSC CMS 2018 exam has been made available for all the aspirants preparing hard for the next years’ Combined Medical Services Examination online on the website of the Commission via a detailed notification online. The latest revised exam pattern for the UPSC CMS 2018 exam has been divided into two parts i.e. Part 1 as a computer-based examination carrying 500 total marks while Part 2 consists of a personality test carrying 100 marks. The Part 1 of the UPSC Combined Medical Services 2018 exam consists of two separate papers of 250 marks of two hours each, both of them being online tests.
Furthermore, candidates who secure marks in part 1 above the cut-off score as decided by the Commission in the UPSC CMS 2018 exam are shortlisted via a merit list generated. Only these shortlisted candidates are further eligible to take the personality test cum interview which is marked on a scale of 100. Combining these two results, final selections are made of qualified candidates via the extensive process of the UPSC Combined Medical Services 2018 exam.

UPSC has also revised the exam syllabus based on which the computer-based test of the UPSC CMS 2018 exam shall be crafted. The Paper I of part 1 shall be of 250 marks to be attempted in two hours duration wherein 120 total number of questions shall be asked. The general medicine questions shall be 96 in number while 24 such questions shall be asked only from Paediatrics section. The syllabus for the General Medicine has been listed pointwise in the officially released detailed notification declaring the UPSC CMS 2018 revised exam syllabus online. The Paper 2 of Part 1 shall have subdivided three sections of Surgery, Gynaecology & Obstetrics and Preventive & Social Medicine having 40 questions from each section making it a total of 120 questions in the Paper 2 as well. The Paper 2 of the UPSC CMS 2018 exam shall also be of 250 marks of 2 hours duration each.
The syllabus for the Personality test carrying 100 marks includes testing of general knowledge and awareness along with the candidates’ analytical and critical prowess. Social behaviour, mind alertness and integrity of character etc. shall also be tested in a candidate’s personality as a part of this test.
