It’s Valentine’s Day in Chandigarh and the second most excited lot after youngsters and lovers of the city is the Chandigarh Police Department. No, they are not excited to celebrate Valentine’s Day the way you do but they’ll be watching you over, where ever you go inĀ Chandigarh.
Chandigarh Police has deployed 600 policemen on city roads to check any unwanted incident and make this Valentine’s Day a peaceful one. That’s not all, 70 nakas have also been set up across various locations in the city by Chandigarh Traffic Police to check miscreants.
According to Superintendent of Police (SP Chandigarh), main areas where police force has been deployed include:
- Market areas of Sector 17, 22 and 35.
- Gedi Route (Sector 9, 10 and 11). Throughout the 3 Kilometre route.
- Panjab University Campus.
- GCG College, Sector 11.
- In front of Arts Museum road, Sector 10.
- Shopping Malls
- Sukhna Lake
- Rose Garden, Shanti Kunj and Leisure Valley.
- Outside Girl’s Hostels.
Apart from all these strategic locations, Chandigarh Police PCR vehicles will patrol city roads throughout the day. Women cops in plain cops will also be a part of this special team for Valentine’s Day in Chandigarh.
Gedi Route – Sector 9, 10 and 11 has been marked as limited vehicle zone and policemen on both sides of the route would not allow cars and bikes to enter the Chandigarh gedi route road stretch.
All this has been done to deal with anti-social elements and to give security to females. In the past years, a lot of youngsters try to spoil the valentine’s day in Chandigarh by passing vague comments to girls or by irritating them in other ways. Also, events like valentine’s day give rise to accidents and rash driving in the city. So. Chandigarh Police is all set to guard city roads on the eve of Valentine’s Day and make this special day a peaceful one for Chandigarh.
