Volvo has finally announced that the car company will now make cars in India. This would be done with the Volvo Group India – a separate entity that used to import Volvo cars in India. Volvo India currently makes trucks and buses for the Indian market and will now finally start an assembly line for cars as well.
Volvo Cars Plant in India
Volvo cars will be assembled at its Hoskote facility in Karnataka. The location of Volvo cars plant in India is on the outskirts of Bengaluru.
Hakan Samuelsson who is the president and chief executive of Volvo Cars said that the company is pleased as it would be able to start selling “Made in India” Volvo cars. He further added that setting up an assembly plant in India for cars is surely a great step for Volvo.
Volvo Cars Manufactured in India
The newly launched Volvo car assembly line in India will initially assemble XC90. Volvo car XC 90 is a hot seller in India. The local assembly of Volvo XC 90 in India might impact the price of the SUV a bit on the lower side. However, it would be too early to say so.
Apart from Volvo XC90 assembly in India, other Volvo cars that would be assembled in India include:
- Volvo S90
- Volvo V90 Cross Country
- XC60 SUV and more.
Till date, all Volvo cars in India were being imported from Sweden. With this new assembly line in India, Volvo India would import the parts and have them assembled here in India at its Hoskote facility near Bengaluru in Karnataka.
Indian Prime Minister Modi’s Make in India campaign seems to going very well as it is engaging companies like Volvo to assemble their cars in India. So, the next time you see a Volvo car in your city in India, it might have been from the new Volvo plant in Karnataka.
