While making a statement as a guest together with Bollywood star Nana Patekar in a reality show, Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari stated that the BJP had made several fake promises to get seat during the 2014 polls.
Currently, in power, BJP has not fulfilled those promises.
Nitin made his declaration in a sequence of a popular Marathi reality show ‘Assal Pavhane, Irsal Namune’ that got telecast on Colours in two parts on 4 and 5 October.
“We didn’t expect to come to power. So we were advised to make tall promises…Now that we are in power, people remind us of the promises we made. But nowadays, we just laugh and move on.”
The initial sequence of the show, named “When politics meets cinema”, got telecast on 4 October, the second instalment, “Comic banter between Nana and Nitin”, was accessible to audiences on 5 October.
“Politics is a game of compulsions, limitations and contradictions,” the minister said when asked about unfulfilled promises.
Talking about the 2014 election movement, Gadkari stated: “We were very confident that we can never come to power. So our people advised us, just to make tall promises. If we come to power, we won’t be answerable anyway! Now the trick is that people have voted us to power. Currently, people remind us of our promises together with dates. These days we just laugh and move on.”
Gadkari’s speech was also got shared by the Congress on their Twitter page, with the note that Nitin Gadkari had just given proof about the Modi government “was ramped up on jumlas and false promises”.
Party president Rahul Gandhi also made a tweet on the popular video.
Gandhi in the tweet said, “Rightly said. People also think that the government has made their dreams and hopes a victim of its greed.”
Ironically, in a response to another query, Nitin Gadkari emphasized the necessity for a party to be flawless and clear with people.
