Chandigarh to Have Screens To Display Weather Forecast at Major Locations

With each passing day, Chandigarh is making a leap ahead in order to become a smart city of India. After projected infrastructural changes in the city beautiful, IMD is mulling on to set up weather forecast screens on the roads to guide tourists about current & upcoming weather updates.

As published in The Indian Express, the weather forecast screens will be a pilot project and will be put on the major routes of Chandigarh. It will remain the part of the tourism forecast project. The screens are considered to be helpful for the people of Chandigarh as it will forecast for the next 24 hours, and accordingly, everyone can plan their course of commutation.

Where will these Weather Screens be installed

  • Sector 17 plaza
  • Rock Garden
  • Sukhna Lake
  • Petrol Pumps and other busiest routes of Chandigarh.

Although Chandigarh is just like a foreign city, but these screens will give Chandigarh a new look. Such weather forecast screens are used in many European and American cities to provide weather information. You’ll easily find some on the roads and prominent tourist places.

On similar lines, Chandigarh too might soon have such screens for weather forecast display in the city.

Finances & Implementation

The MET Department will reach to various sponsoring companies to assist in setting up the screens. Apart from this, a mobile app for weather forecast has also been projected by the MET Department.

Proposed project by IMD to the government

IMD has announced this plan at its conference here in Chandigarh with an aim to contact various agencies and stakeholder for the weather forecast services provider. IMD received feedbacks and suggestions from agriculturists, agencies like Central Water Commission, irrigation, power, health department, water resources, Bhakra Beas management board and others.

IMD has now proposed the government to set up doppler weather radars at locations including Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh to record the sudden change in weather so that it may help in predicting weather more accurately.
