Wheels of Several Cars Stolen in Chandigarh From Different Sectors

Chandigarh used to be considered as one of the safest places in India but the thefts in Chandigarh have moved to a different level now and it’s unbelievable. Now you will have to think thrice before parking your cars on the roads as thieves have started stealing tyres and accessories of the parked cars. On an average, one such case in two days is happening in Chandigarh.

10 theft cases of wheels removed from cars parked outside houses have been registered in the past two weeks. A resident of Sector 45 said that he woke up in the morning on Thursday and saw that all the four wheels of his vehicles were stolen. The police have registered all the theft complaints underĀ  Section 379 (theft) of the IPC.

Thieves Target The Brand New Vehicles

The Chandigarh Police said that thieves are targeting the brand new vehicles as the resale value of those vehicles will more in the second-hand products market. The thieves are making the most of the jack and bricks in stealing the tyres of the vehicles.

The residents park their vehicles outside their houses wherever they find a place to park because of the congested parking spaces and the thieves find it easy to steal things. To overcome this problem, the police have started night patrolling. The SSP of Chandigarh that the residents must install CCTV cameras outside their houses or they should hire a watchman to avoid such cases.

Anti-Theft Systems Installed But No Protection For Wheels

Almost all the cars these come with the anti-theft system which sets off an alarm whenever a door or a window is forcefully opened. There is no such system for protecting the wheels of the vehicle and the thieves manage to unscrew and then remove using a box spanner. The police say that there could be a gang of thieves who are involved in such cases.

The wheels of expensive vehicles are in a high demand in the second-hand product market that is why the thieves have targeted the expensive and new vehicles. The stolen tyres or alloys are further sold in second-hand products market located in Burail, Zirakpur, Panchkula and Kharar. The tyre shop owners said that the alloys of the vehicles are expensive and are in high demand in the market.
