Announced in April, 2017, the Xiaomi Mi 6 is the Chinese brand’s flagship product of the year 2017. The flagship product drives great volumes in China at a fraction of the cost of flagship devices from the rest of the manufacturers. India is the second largest market for the brand and it was surprising that the Mi 6 was not brought to the country. However, things might change as we have spotted another version of the Xiaomi Mi 6 that carries 4GB of RAM. The model spotted on TENAA carries 4GB RAM and 64 GB memory that suggests that it is a torn down version of the Chinese flagship.
Xiaomi Mi 6 importance for India:
India is the second largest market for the Chinese brand Xiaomi after its home market. The brand has seen exponential growth in the country and it was surprising when the brand gave mi 6 a miss. At a time when the other Chinese flagships like the Oneplus 5 are driving great sales for their companies Xiaomi definitely missed an opportunity. The Mi5 too, which was the predecessor of the Mi 6 was brought to India in torn down specifications with 3GB of RAM and only 32GB of memory. This prevented the Mi 5 from appealing to a larger audience and hence saw very little sales. It is very essential for the company to bring a proper high spec flagship to maintain the premium form factor of the brand. If the company brings the Xiaomi Mi 6 to India, it will compete with Oneplus 5 and the newly launched Nokia 8.
Xiaomi Mi 6 lower spec version:
The TENAA listing suggests that Xiaomi has considered a loop hole in their product plan. Initially the Xiaomi Mi 6 carried 64GB and 128GB versions coupled to 6GB of RAM. Xiaomi might be trying to broaden the horizon for the potential customer base that are looking for a premium device at an affordable price point. The Xiaomi Mi 6 4GB variant is launching on the 11th of November with a reported price of 22,600 Indian Rupees. There is no word as to what market the new variant is aimed at.
