Manushi Chhillar hails from Haryana, India. The state is disliked for the worst male-female ratio in India.
Dr Mitra Basu Chhillar, Manushi Chhillar’s father, is a scientist at DRDO (Defence Research and Development Organisation).
Dr. Neelam Chhillar, Manushi Chhillar’s mother, works at the Institute of Human Behaviour and Allied Sciences and is currently the head of the Neuro-chemistry department.
Manushi Chhillar won Laurals for the country after 17 years
Manushi Chhillar is mere 20 years old and is the sixth Indian woman to have been crowned Miss World.
Manushi Chhillar was crowned Femina Miss India earlier this year. While representing India in China at the star-studded event she earned the coveted title of Miss World 2017 .
Manushi Chhillar is the sixth woman in India to have won the oldest running international beauty pageant – “Miss World”. Reita Faria was the first ‘Miss India World’ who won the prestigious ‘Miss World’ crown in 1966. Other Miss World crown winners from India include Aishwarya Rai, Yukta Mookhey, Diana Hayden and the last participant to be crowned Miss World was Priyanka Chopra.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, brought the ‘Miss World’ title home after a gap of about 30 years and was the first woman in the country to bring the crown to India after Reita Faria who was crowned Miss World in 1966. Manushi Chhillar won the crown after a gap of 17 years and is the first woman after Priyanka Chopra who won the crown in 2000.
Manushi Chhillar’s education and other achievements
When Manushi Chhillar enrolled herself for the beauty pageant she was pursuing her medical degree from a college in Haryana. She is still pursuing Bachelor’s degree in medicine and surgery from the Bhagat Phool Singh Government Medical College for Women in Sonipat, Haryana.
Besides being a medical student, Manushi Chhillar is a qualified Kuchipudi dancer. Manushi Chhillar has learnt the nuances of the classical dance – Kuchipudi from legendary dancers Radha Reddy and Raja.
With a keen interest in painting and poetry, Manushi Chhillar has been a part of the National School of Drama. There are chances that we may see another beauty queen in Bollywood soon…
Winner of the ‘Miss World’ title, Manushi Chhillar has a flair for the English language. Manushi has been the All-India topper in English subject in Class 12.
Beauty with brains working for a cause
Miss World 2017 Manushi Chhillar took up the cause of menstrual hygiene in the country through an initiative called Project Shakti. Through her Beauty with a Purpose project – Shakti, she aggressively spread awareness about menstrual hygiene in 20 villages.
