Honda’s Top Seller – Honda City Crosses 7 Lakh Sales Milestone in India & is Going Strong

Honda, one of the major passenger car manufacturer in India, has recently celebrated the cumulative sales go the Honda City to cross the 7 lakh milestone in India.  This makes the current fourth-generation model the highest-selling City yet. Honda City was launched in India in the year 1998 and was recently given a facelift y Honda. As a matter of fact, Honda has over 25% of the model’s sales from India.

According to the recent statistics, in the month of May this year, Honda City has bagged over 25,000 orders after it was launched in February. The fourth-generation of the Honda City has received more than 14,000 bookings within a month of its official launch. According to some of the reports, over 40 percent of the bookings for the Honda City was for the top-of-the-line ZX variant which, in the New Delhi is priced at Rs. 13.52 lakh (ex-showroom price).

The 2017 model of the Honda City comes with major upgrades and features to attract more users to the comfortable ride. The Honda City is believed to have sold with the same engine options from the beginning which are a 1.5-litre petrol and a 1.5-litre diesel mill. The Honda City is available for sale in thirteen various variants within the price range of Rs. 8.85 lakh to Rs. 13.56 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

With a strong legacy of four generations, Honda City has evolved with changing tastes and aspirations of the customers. Honda had sold-out 59,378 units of the primary generation Honda city from 1998 to 2003, whereas from 2003 to 2008, it sold-out near 1,77,742 units of second generation city. From 2008-2013, it sold 1,92,939 units of the city and from 2014 until currently, the corporate has managed to sell 2,69,941 units of the model.

With the presence of the Honda City in 60 countries, the 25% sales in India only is thought to be great statistics according to critics. With the potential buyers having the option to choose from a wide range of trims, the car comes with a five-speed manual gearbox. Also, there’s a petrol CVT that has accounted for about 30 percent of the City customers.
