Pradeep Negi, a physically challenged teacher from an institute in Uttarakhand has made it among the top 50 contenders for one million dollars global award. The Indian teacher beats the tough competition worldwide, to be named among the top 50 in the world.
A Social science and Computer teacher Pradeep Negi is shortlisted for the annual Varkey Foundation Global Teacher Prize 2018. Negi teaches economics, social science and computer science at Government Inter College BHEL Ranipur in Haridwar. Pradeep Negi’s name has been selected from 30000 applications and nominations from 173 countries across the world.
Pradeep Negi Overcomes his Disabilities
Pradeep Negi says that he is proud to be the among the top 50 teachers and his nomination for global teacher award has motivated teachers in their community. He said that he is handicapped but it has never stopped him from succeeding and he is glad to inspire other disabled people in the country.
Negi had created a lot of work in the ICT for poor children and he is glad that his work has been recognized. He was disabled at the age of two years due to polio. Pradeep Negi was shortlisted for his high spirit and overcoming his adversities to use innovative tools for making economics and social science interesting for students.
Pradeep Negi Contributes to Teaching Profession
Pradeep Negi has also trained 1200 teachers in his state. The Global Teacher Prize has been set up to recognize an exceptional teacher every year, who made a significant contribution to the profession. The names of top 50 teachers will be again scrutinized to 10 finalists by a committee and the final results will be out in February 2018. The Global Teacher Prize Academy will then select the winner from among the 10 finalists.
The 10 finalists will be invited for the Award Ceremony at GSEF Dubai, the Global Education and Skills Forum. The winner’s name will be announced live on stage in the Award Ceremony. Sunny Varkey, the founder of Varkey Foundation & Global Teacher Prize congratulates Pradeep Negi for reaching the final 50. He added, that he hopes that Negi’s success story will inspire others, who are looking to make a career in teaching. He said, that we intend to keep up the momentum as the journey continues to bring the teachers to the rightful position.
