Chandigarh, our city beautiful has once again made it to the top cleanest cities of India as per the Indian Government’s Swachh Survekshan Survey 2018. The news of Chandigarh being ranked as the third cleanest city of India in 2018 has brought cheers to the residents of Chandigarh. The results of Swachh Survekshan 2018 were announced yesterday where Chandigarh has been placed at the 3rd spot just after Indore and Bhopal in overall cleanliness.
If we talk about Indore and Bhopal, then this is the second consecutive year that both the Indian cities have bagged the first and second cleanest city award. There’s no doubt in the fact that our city beautiful Chandigarh is also one of the cleanest city in the country as per 2018 survey by bagging the 3rd spot. It is the top 3 cities that matter the most in every year’s Swachh Survekshan survey.
Chandigarh 3rd Cleanest City in 2018 Swachh Survekshan
The results of sanitation survey announced by housing and urban affairs minister Hardeep Singh Puri yesterday. It was expected that Chandigarh will get a good rank in this Swachh Survekshan as the city had done a lot to regain its spot in the top cleanest cities of India from the past couple of years.
This ranking for Chandigarh is on an overall index. There are other cities that have topped in various categories like – Small city, big cities having more than one million population, cleanest municipal corporation body, cleanest cantt, the cleanest city among state capitals etc.
How Chandigarh was Placed in past Cleanest City Surveys of India
In 2014-15, when the Swachh Survekshan Survey was launched for the first time under Modi Government, Chandigarh had bagged the first position. Later in the year 2016, Chandigarh slipped to 2nd position but it was again something to cheer.
After that in the year 2017, Chandigarh saw a major decline in the cleanliness index as it was placed at 11th position due to various factors. Garbage collection was one such factor. This came as a surprise to city residents as well as government officials. A lot has been done after that to make Chandigarh rank as the top cleanest city and the work has been successful.

No matter wherever you go in the world, Chandigarh has a special vibe and it is said that once you have lived in Chandigarh, you’ll not like any other city.
