India’s much awaited and much hyped Presidential Election 2017 is taking place today where the two substantial candidates Ram Nath Kovind and Meira Kumar are locking horns to become the first man or first lady of India. Amid the heated environment of voting and speculations, every citizen of India is curious to know that out of the two who will be the next President of India.

Since, Monday morning (10 am) today, 4120 Members of Legislative Assembly and 776 Members of Parliament are one by one going to cast their vote in a secret ballot at the Parliament. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP President Amit Shah have casted their votes at the Parliament early morning and also addressed media wishing both the contesting candidates good luck. Since morning the MPs and MLAs are seen standing up in the long queues outside the Parliament to cast their vote for the President Election 2017 of India.
Going by the speculations, Ram Nath Kovind is likely to win the Presidential Election of India 2017 and sweep about 70 % of the votes. PM Modi along with other NDA led BJP leaders have stood up in support with Ram Nath Kovind while the opposition and the left parties seem to be in support with Meira Kumar as the next President of India
Who’s Ram Nath Kovind contesting as President of India
NDA led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) nominated one of their leaders, Ram Nath Kovind for the Presidential Election 2017 of India earlier this year as the party found him the potential candidate for the post. Ram Nath Kovind’s political career as a Dalit leader and member of the BJP. He had been the Governor of Bihar from the year 2015 to 2017.
Born and brought up in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, Ram Nath Kovind has is a graduate in Commerce and had done LLB from Kanpur University. Hailing from the family of farmers, Ram Nath Kovind has served as the Central Government Advocate in the Delhi High Court from the year 1977 to 1979. He was also the Central Government Standing Counsel in the Supreme Court from the year1980 to 1993.
Who’s Meira Kumar contesting for India’s Presidential Election 2017
Another contesting candidate of India’s Presidential Election 2017 is Meira Kumar, the first woman Speaker of Lok Sabha. Meira Kumar has been five-times Member of Parliament and UPA nominee for the President of India election 2017. A lawyer by profession and a former diplomate, Meira Kumar from 2004- 2009 has served at the Cabinet Minister in the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment during the Manmohan Singh led Congress Government. Daughter of Jagjivan Ram, a Dalit leader and the former Deputy Prime Minister, Meira Kumar’s mother Indrani Devi was a freedom fighter.
Today’s Presidential Election 2017 of India will carry on till 5 pm while its results will be announced on July 20, 2017.
