Mahindra KUV 100 is currently the only micro SUV that is in sale in India but Auto Expo 2018 showcased one of its biggest rivals which will make way to the Indian market soon. The Maruti Future S will be Maruti Suzuki’s first Micro SUV in the 4.5-6.5 Lakh segment where the car makers are barely able to squeeze in features due to budget constraints. The car remained to be quite an attraction for auto enthusiasts and is on its way to eat into the sales of the Mahindra KUV 100. However, this might not happen anytime soon as the Maruti Future S is still a concept as of now and might not see the light of day until late 2020.
How The Maruti Future S Plans To Take On The Mahindra KUV 100?
The Mahindra KUV 100 is a very capable car. The features and room in the car do really make it stand out from the competition in the segment it is placed in. Maruti Future S will try to launch with the same strategy and go a notch further by putting in additional features. The car displayed at the Auto Expo sheds quite some light on what we should expect from the production variant.
The Maruti Future S concept that was showcased at the Auto Expo was a sub 4 metre car that had cladding all around it to make it look beefier. The Mahindra KUV 100 rival stood on 17-inch wheels which are not at all going to come in the production variant. The wrap around white accent on the front windscreen along with the stylish LED lights increased the oomph factor of the Maruti Future Concept S. Nothing much was disclosed about the insides of the car, but considering the segment it belongs to expect a pocket-friendly cabin with average use of materials.
There have also been rumours going around that Maruti will not launch it as a Mahindra KUV 100 rival but scale down proportions to compete with the Renault Kwid. There is very little we know about the car for now and cannot side with any of the rumours. Engine options haven’t been disclosed either but Maruti is developing a 1.5-litre diesel engine in house which we doubt will be offered in a car in this segment.
Mahindra KUV 100 Will Move Miles Ahead By The Time Maruti Future S Launches in India
Maruti Future S is supposed to launch in India by 2020 and rival the Mahindra KUV 100. However, we believe the KUV 100 will move miles ahead in the competition as Mahindra has been pretty aggressive with customer feedback lately. Right from the NXT version of the KUV 100 to powering the entire thing with an electric motor, Mahindra has big plans for the micro SUV. The electric version of the car is supposed to launch by next year or maybe in 2018 itself if we are lucky enough. The rumoured price of the electric version is close to 11-12 Lakh Rupees which makes it quite compelling. How well the Maruti Future S will be priced is a question that we may only be able to answer in 2020.
