Home-grown automaker Mahindra & Mahindra is all set to launch a new variant of one of its most selling SUV – Mahindra Scorpio. It has been reported that electric variant of the successful Mahindra Scorpio will be launched in India by 2019.
The report also mentions that Mahindra & Mahindra will invest immensely to produce electric vehicles (EV) in India. It has also been reported that Mahindra will invest Rs 4,000 crore in next 3-5 years for the production of EV (electric vehicles) in the country. The company has already invested about Rs 500 crore for the same.
New variant of Mahindra Scorpio soon – Electric Mahindra Scorpio
Mahindra & Mahindra. the home-grown automaker is setting up to bring an electric version of one of the best-selling SUV from the Mahindra stable – the electric Scorpio. As per the report, Mahindra has already started testing the new electric variant of the Scorpio in India. Under testing phase at the moment, the new electric variant of the Mahindra Scorpio is likely to get unveiled in the country in next two years.
The carmaker is expected to roll out the all-new electric variant of the Mahindra Scorpio in 2019. Though, Mahindra & Mahindra is not a new player in the segment, yet it is for the first time that the automaker will be bringing out the technology in one of its tried, tested and successful product in company’s product portfolio – Scorpio.
Mahindra launching new products in the electric vehicle (EV) segment
As per the report, Mahindra & Mahindra was the first company to endeavour in the electric vehicle domain in the country. The report also suggests that it is gradually increasing its product portfolio in the segment by launching new products rapidly. The home-grown automaker is also escalating its footprint in the country as well as across the globe. Mahindra & Mahindra is aggressively partnering with new and existing players in the segment for producing electric vehicles for the domestic as well as for the international market.
“Electric Vehicle” is the future to fight global warming and pollution
Several giants in the auto industry have already pledged to manufacture only electric vehicles after a specific period of time. The ecosystem is changing at a fast pace and pollution due to vehicular traffic is one of the major reasons for the changing ecology. As per the report, Centre has announced to implement electric vehicle by 2030. Post the announcement, most of the auto players are pulling up their sleeves to match the market’s needs and face the competition.
At present, Mahindra has three cars in the electric vehicle segment – E2o Plus, Supro Electric and Verito Electric and it has recently launched its e-rickshaw in India and has become the first organised player in the country to venture into this segment.
