Punjab Electricity Tariff Rises & it’s 9.33 % Price Hike for Domestic Consumers from April 2017

Electricity tariff in Punjab rises by 9.33% by the Punjab State Electricity Regulatory Commission (PSERC). The recent hike in the power tariff across the Punjab state has given a shock to the people. The announcement of the electricity tariff hike in Punjab was made during a press conference held in Chandigarh, recently.

As published in an English daily, the increased electricity rates will be applicable across the sectors in Punjab and will get implemented from April 1, 2017. That means, the power consumers of the Punjab state will have to submit their pending electricity bill (the difference as per the revised electricity tariff rates) from April 1, 2017 till date. The PSERC has extended leniency to the power consumers in Punjab that they can pay their pending electricity bills in the instalment of nine months.

Category wise revised electricity rates in Punjab

Talking about the revised electricity rates in Punjab will leave all the power consumers in the state in a major jolt as domestic consumers are the ones who are most affected. In the category of domestic power consumers in Punjab, the existing tariff of 0- 100 units were Rs 452, which is now increased by Rs 46 and the total tariff rate has come down to Rs 498. Similarly, for 101- 300 units the previous tariff was Rs 614 and now it will be Rs 655, for 301- to 500 units the previous tariff was Rs 656 and now it will be Rs 715, and for above 500 units the previous tariff was Rs 656 and now it will be Rs 736.

For DS (50kW-100kVA) and DS (>100kVA) the previous tariff was Rs 656 and now it will be Rs 736. For NRS 0-100 units the previous tariff was  Rs 653 and now it will be Rs 710, for NRS 101-500 units the previous tariff was Rs 675 and now it will be Rs 735, NRS above 500 units the previous tariff was Rs 675 and now it will be Rs 747, for NRS (50kW-100kVA and for NRS (>100kVA) the previous tariff was Rs 675 and now it will be Rs 747. For public lighting, the previous tariff was Rs 669 and now it will be Rs 739.

For Industrial and bulk supply power consumers 

The commercial usage of power in Punjab has also hiked by 9 to 12 % approximately. In the category of industrial electricity consumption, the previous tariff for small power was  Rs 547 and now it will be Rs 612, for medium supply it was Rs 599 and it will now be Rs 657, for large supply it was Rs 653 and it will be Rs 689.

Whereas where bulk supply is needed, the revised power rates are- for HT it was Rs 641 and now it will be Rs 712, for LT it was Rs 668 and it will be Rs 739 now, at Railway Traction it was Rs 675 which is now revised to Rs 746 and for AP the tariff for electricity was Rs 458, which is now hiked to Rs 506 in Punjab.
