While the world No. 1 from Spain, Rafael Nadal, defeated Juan Martin del Potro, Kevin Anderson defeated the Spaniard Pablo Carreño Busta to reach US Open final.
While the finalist Rafael Nadal will be playing for his third major final this year, Kevin Anderson will be playing his first US Open final ever as this is the South African’s first ever grand slam final at the age of 31.
Rafael Nadal stooped Juan Martin del Potro’s victory voyage
Rafael Nadal not only broke del Potro’s spirit but also his serve. Rafael Nadal registered his win over Juan Martin del Potro after a commanding four-setter.
After losing the first set to Juan Martin del Potro, Rafael Nadal made sure he doesn’t leave any space for the opponent Spaniard. Rafael Nadal won the semi-final 4-6, 6-0, 6-3, 6-2, that ended approximately two and a half hours.
Juan Martin del Potro had beaten Rafael Nadal the past two times they played. Juan Martin del Potro had beaten Rafael Nadal here in 2009 in the semi-finals of the slam.
Nadal made sure history is not repeated!
The last time Rafael Nadal had lost a Grand Slam semifinal was against Juan Martin del Potro. Surprisingly the defeat was witnessed on the same court eight years ago. Rafael Nadal was not at all ready to endure a repeat performance and he made sure history is not repeated!
Since 2009, when Rafael Nadal lost to Juan Martin del Potro, Rafael has progressed to the final 15 times. During their last encounter eight years ago, the match lasted for around two hours and 20 minutes. After defeating Rafael Nadal in the semifinals Juan Martin del Potro stunned five-time defending champion Roger Federer in the final.
