SSC CGL 2017 (Tier 1) Exam – Major Changes & New Exam Pattern

SSC CGL is an examination conducted to recruit staff to various posts in ministries and departments of the Govt. of India. The exam is conducted by the Staff Selection Commission for selecting staff for various Group B and Group C posts.

It is conducted in four stages – Tier -1, Tier- 2, Tier -3 and Tier – 4. Tier 1 exam will be conducted between  August 1, 2017 and August 20, 201

SSC CGL 2017 Tier 1 – Some Major Changes

The Staff Selection Commission has revised the Examination Pattern this year. Now both Tier I and Tier II exam will be conducted in online mode. Let us have a look at few changes which are going to take place in this year’s examination:

Time limit for Tier-I examination reduced to 60 minutes: The Time limit for SSC CGL tier 1 exam which was earlier of 75 minutes has now been reduced to 60 minutes. This means that candidates will now get only 60 minutes to solve 100 questions.

Negative Marking Increased: Earlier there was a negative marking of  0.25 marks for every wrong answer but now there will be negative marking of 0.50 marks for each wrong answer in SSC CGL Tier-I Exam.

Reduction in the total number of questions: According to the new pattern of SSC Examination, the total number of questions have now been reduced to 100 questions which earlier was 200 questions.

Age limit clarification:  Candidates were confused about the age limit for various posts but the new notification released by ssc has put all the doubts to rest and has cleare that the upper age limit for excise inspector, preventive officer and the examiner will be 30 years.

The introduction of new posts: There have been an introduction of a new post of Assistant Accounts Officer in the Department of Indian Audits & Accounts under CAG.

 Increased Grade pay:  SSC has decided to revise grade pays for various posts. The Grade pay for Sub Inspector (O), CBI, has been increased to Rs. 4,600 from 4200.  Grade pay for Inspector of Posts (P)- Dept of posts, has increased to 4,600 as from 4,200 and grade pay for Inspector (S), Narcotics has increased to 4,600 which was earlier 4,200.

There is no Sectional Cut off in SSC CGL 2017.

SSC CGL Tier II pattern will remain same.

The Examination will be conducted in four tiers as indicated below:

Tier -I — Online Examination (Objective Multiple Choice Type)

Tier -II — Online Examination (Objective Multiple Choice Type)

Tier -III —Descriptive Paper in English/Hindi (writing of Essay/Precis/Letter /Application Writing)

Tier -IV — Computer Proficiency Test/ Skill Test (wherever applicable)/ Document Verification

SSC CLG 2017 Tier 1 – New Exam Pattern

 General intelligence & reasoning = 25 questions of 50 marks.

Quantitative Aptitude = 25 questions of 50 marks.

General English = 25 ques 50 marks.

General Awareness = 25 questions and again of 50 marks. 

Total duration of SSC CGL Tier 1 exam will be 60 minutes.
